Alright.

I logged out in order to log back in... can't remember why.

A user was listed that I definitely didn't add, named Portage. The user has a password as well.

I went to system preferences and looked under users, and only I was listed.
What's going on?!

Decided to get hacker-ish about it.

powerbook-g4-17:~ Mike$ id portage
uid=250(portage) gid=250(portage) groups=250(portage)

well... does OS acknowledge this user at all? i mean, through \Users, for instance?

Nope, no folder in /Users...

But it does show the user in my fast user switching menu... this is really weird.

I did attempt to install Gentoo for Mac OS. It gave me an error though...

I still don't get why it would make its own user.

I guess that's part of how it installs or runs. I've never used it myself, so i have no idea.
