I haven't read anywhere that the iPad will have the ability to manage several user profiles. Anyone know if this is coming?

There was speculation before the keynote about facial recognition enabling multiple user profiles, but that's about as far as it ever went.

So ... no :apple:

User Switching or Profiles would be kind of cool since my wife wants to get an ipad for the family (Me, Wife, and Kid). That way all of us have our own unique wallpapers and pages with our apps.

Here is a jailbreak application that is about to come out that supports multiple users/accounts on iPad, with all features (web/applications/settings/etc): http://nowsci.com/news/20110301/user-profiles-for-ipad-user-switching-and-account-support-for-ios/

Features include:

  • Fast user switching on re-spring (Approx 5 seconds)
  • Independent wallpapers and other settings like brightness
  • Seperate settings for iTunes applications (Facebook, Twitter, etc)
  • Unique icon arrangements per user
  • Support for independent Email/Contacts/Calendar accounts
  • Different bookmarks, history, and site logins for Safari
  • Shared applications: Install an App on one user, it auto-installs for the other
  • Complete iTunes compatibility
  • Shared Cydia settings support
  • Optional password security for accounts
  • Clone existing user to new user

I can see how it would be useful for the iPad. Not so much for the iPhone.

Nothing has been announced.

If they do add something like that, it would likely be an iOS5 feature.
