I am lucky enough to own (2) of the latest iPad's. I wanted to create a notebook style case that when you open it up, one ipad would be on each side. My thought was to use the left screen for reading documents, emails, web pages, etc. and to use the right screen for a writing surface with a stylus, or an application like Avaya flare (UC client, business phone) for ipad.

so, that leaves me with 2 seperate problems (one big, one not so big)

1) is there any software that would make the 2 ipads aware of each other (bluetooth or wifi) so they could interact somehow?

2) a case to hold them in. I use a Dodo case now (which i love) which gave me the idea to take an Encyclopedia, rip the pages out, ask Dodo to send me a new wood cradle (i could make it myself, but they came up with the idea, i want to use them). THe corners fo the cradle extend high enough so the screens would be protected. , But i think something else would be needed. (it would have to be able to roll/fold up to be out fo the way when open with with screens showing.

I am open for ideas, suggestions, etc. If anyone has tried this, or knows of someone who has, please leave word so i can check it out.

The beauty of Android lol... I had two HP Touchpads running android and I went and did that. One was used for the keyboard and mouse and the other was normal. It was through an app call droid mote.. I don't know of a similar iPad app

I don't have a solution for you, but it's funny because I often use two iPads too due to the lack of multitasking. On the iPad 2 I'll have podcast videos, flipboard, safari or Netflix running and on iPad 3 I'll do my work. I really hope that Apple borrows the Windows 8 split panel thing because with so many amazing apps it really is inefficient that we have to use only one at a time.

hmm.

Someone has got to have something like it.

I smell a kickstarter project

Yeah but how many people own two tablets and want to use them at once? I bet the number is so few, there'd be no profit in making a case for it.

Two ipads is more productive and efficient than one Mac air or MacBook pro? The idea of using two I pads and having them interact with each other is a neat idea, but may not be financially feasable to make a case to accommodate two ipads, as
Mentioned before rarely do you have people who make use of such a setup or have two ipads.

First of all, Love your Artie Lange picture huge howard fan! Huge!

I'm not really intereseted in making money on it. If i had the ability to fabricate these at a low cost, i would. I'd hire some labor and someone to ship it and keep a small profit that gets donated at the end of each fiscal quarter.

Here was my quick sketch. If anyone has skills, let me know

iPad Musicians

This sounds like a good idea OP. Would love to see some concepts. I might work on something tonight although I'm no de-signer (Paul Sr. Voice)

edit: That PDF looks decent.

How many iPad musicians are there, out of all total iPad owners? Then take that small number, and take another precentage off for those "musician" who wouldn't use the case, etc....

I think it's a good idea, but not a seller. IMO. The pdf was cool though.

The number of people who would want this would definitely be more than those who want the pinball duo, icade etc. those sell just fine. You don't need to sell one to the whole world and plan to take over the ipad case industry... Even a small niche market, is a real viable market with the population and number of users...

So I guess what I'm saying... If you do the math mentioned above my post here, it's still quite high. Also it's short sighted to think only musicians would use this. With the popularity of tablets,it will not be uncommon for people to own multiple soon! I own two extras now and already even gave older models to my family. I searched out google looking for better ways to utilize two iPads, so the market is there, and growing fast.

A quick idea to make a "book" case inexpensively.

Find iPad back-shell cases where the plastic from the shell wraps around the front a bit. The front height of the shell must be high enough that if you put two iPads face-to-face (screen-to-screen) in the cases, the front rim of the cases meets, and keeps the screens from touching.

Next, measure the height of the 2-iPad stack (including cases). Go to a bookstore and look for a hardcover book with outer dimensions the same or a bit larger than the cases (length & width), and with the book thickness a smidgen larger than the height of the 2-iPad stack.

Buy the book and remove the inside pages. Attach the cases to the inside book covers using super-strong, relatively thin double-stick tape between the inside covers and the back of the cases. (Do this while the two iPads in their cases are still stacked, so when the book closes the rims will meet.) I'd try Scotch Permanent Outdoor Mounting Tape.

Note that some case materials may be too slippery for the tape to adhere. Try a different case material or at least sand the case to give it more roughness.

You can also figure out where the iPads' camera lenses will be, and pre-drill a hole in the book cover. It will need to be fairly large -- I would guess around the size of a U.S. quarter -- so the edges of the hole are not visible in the iPad's camera view when it is set to taking photos. (When set to taking videos, only the center of the camera view is used, so vignetting is more of a problem with still photos.)

It is possible in software

Check the App called "porTable". With the app you can combine multiple iOS devices and deal cards around. It seems pretty realtime eventhough it is sort of a Multiplayer game. Maybe they can redesitribute a part of their sourcecode.

Multitasking is not the same thing as being able to display two apps at the same time.

I just tried using dual iPads

It doesn't feel very natural yet but has some real benefits. Monitor security cams while reading. Keep TV remote open while working. I know watching TV doesn't make for a productive person. Still. How about researching while writing. Sure would be nice to copy paste between 2 iPads. Airdrop will surely make this a much more useable configuration. 2 ipad mini's side by side are a very nice size and still light enough. Maybe a stupid idea for some but what if you could expand your screen across both devices. Play keyboards on one while recording on the other.

I also would like to see this product, for gaming. I game on multiple iPads and having a device that holds two side by side I think would be of interest to a lot of iPad gamers. Build it and I will buy it.
