I still have a 5W brick charger that I had used for my previous iPhones.

Will the 5W brick charger work on my new iPhone 13 Pro?

I am aware that the charging time will take longer. But is fine with me. I don’t mind the slow charging time.

If you already know that the charging time will take longer why you would ask if it would work when it is obvious it will work.

Apple even recommends to use already owned chargers.

The problem I had with using the 5w brick to charge my 12 Pro Max was that the 5w brick got uncomfortably hot several times. The whole point of the Pro Max is a beautiful screen with a massive battery that can lend to days of usage (for me anyway). Why would I tether that to a cable for so long?

I’ve been enjoying the fact that my devices don’t need to be plugged in as much as they used to. I’ve been using Anker batteries to power my devices for the last 4-5 iPhones (they charge at the fastest speed the phones will take) and haven’t seen any detrimental effect on the battery. Granted, I don’t keep my phone for more than 2 years. But I compared my baby’ing usage to another identical phone with heavy usage and there’s really not much of a difference after 2 years.

Unless you are going to keep your phone 3+ years, it is my opinion that you won’t see much of a difference by using a 5w charger, other than SIGNIFICANTLY spending much more time plugged in (and from what I’ve seen, a very warm 5w charger).

I plug my iPhone 13 PM in every few days and it never sees below 60%. Yes, I’m a light user. What I love is, I can plug it in for just a few mins and not have to plug it in for days if I wanted to.

But to each their own. I’d highly recommend the old 12w iPad charger - that’s what I sometimes use. :D

5W is pretty slow. With the introduction of the MagSafe charger (with 20W USB-C adapter), I've been using that exclusively since I had my 12 Pro and now my 13 Pro Max. It does a mighty fine job for all my phone charging needs.

I still prefer the 5W charger because the faster it charges it will degrade the battery health quicker.

Anyways, just to confirm, is it fine if I use the 5W brick charger to charge the iPhone 13 Pro?

And if the brick charger gets slightly hot just in case, will it do damage to the phone and it’s battery?

Also, if the phone gets charged at 100%, will it automatically stop charging to prevent damage to the phone or battery?

As I’m writing this, my phone is charging with the 5W charger and it’s not getting hot and it’s almost charged to 100%

It will work with all USB outlets or chargers from all companies since the invention of the standard like 20 years ago. No matter what the wattage is. And no there won’t be damage.

The U in USB stands for universal;)
