Using a 4k monitor with the new Mini

I'm considering a 4k monitor for my new Mac Mini, but it'll be primarily used for coding. I wanted to know if the screen would be suitable. I understand in native 4k, everything will be too small, but i've read a little about Macs having a high DPI mode where the 4k screen can be used for a scaled resolution that looks good.

Is this an option?
