I'm using a Microsoft Intellimouse as its much more comfortable than the Apple mouse.
The only issue I have is the middle click doesn't let me scroll. It works as a click, but if I want to scroll down fast it doesn't turn into a scroll. Is this just not possible on a Mac?

Do you mean this:

My Kensington mouse does that and it's just configured as a "middle click" in the Kensingtonworks software.

I'm thinking that there's no Microsoft macOS software for the Intellimouse. There might be a third-party solution…perhaps someone knows of one that will work with it.

Yeah that's what I mean, I always use that on Windows computers so its hard when using a Mac and it doesn't work.

It is the responsibility of the hardware seller to provide software for added functionality.

"Steermouse" is a $20 application that will apparently work with the Intellimouse. You'll have to do the research to see if it will do what you need or even more that you might like.

USB Overdrive will let you configure the wheel click to be a middle click. It's free with a nag on reboot, and very affordable for a lifetime licence to support the developer.

I tested Steermouse and whilst it does allow to change some things, it doesn't allow the middle button to have multiple functions. So I can't set it to be a middle click when clicking on a link, but then be a scroll when not clicking on a link.
