Hi. I just purchased a Straight Talk Pre-paid iPhone SE. How do set it up so I can use it like an iPod Touch? In others words, I don’t want to activate the sim. I don’t need the “phone” part of it as I already have and iPhone 8 Plus.

Thanks!

So this is what is on the back of the phone... does this mean I can’t use it as an iPod Touch? In other threads I’ve read, it seems that it can be done so I could use it as an iPod Touch.

I think you have to activate the phone though to pass the initial set up. Which carrier do you have your regular phone with? Can you insert that sim in the SE to activate it? If you can you'll be able to remove the sim and use it as an iPod touch after it's been activated.

I have Verizon. I haven’t opened the box yet. So I would need to remove my Verizon sim from my 8 Plus, stick it in the SE , let it activate and then remove it and put it back in my 8 Plus, correct? Won’t this activate the SE to my Verizon account? And the sim will function the same when I put it back in the 8 Plus? Just want to be sure I am doing this right.

Thanks.

Theoretically but I don't know if the SE is locked to Straight Talk? If the SE is unlocked it should work without issue.

Just came across this in another thread... what do you think?

This is what I just did recently. Went to Walmart and bought a straight talk 32gb iPhone 6. It came with a sim. I put the sim in and it activated the phone. I set the phone up and put my music on it and used it as an iPod touch for awhile. It worked fine. I never activated the sim to use. I then later took the straight talk sim I was using in my 5s and put it in the 6 and now it is a phone.

This is the same phone (well SE) but same network and I bought it from Walmart. Thoughts? How would I know if it is locked? Or should I just use my Verizon sim to play it safe...

You don’t need a valid plan/SIM card to activate the phone, you just need “a” SIM card. You can use yout Verizon SIM just to activate it and put it right back into your regular phone.

This is Correct. The phone just has to recognize that there is a SIM card installed in order to get past that step during setup. Once you’re at the home screen you can take the SIM card out and use the phone as you wish. It will just say in the top left corner “no sim installed” or something like that. At that point you can just put it on airplane mode and turn the WiFi on.
