Using a prepaid plan on original iPhone?

If I was at a place where there is no wifi, will it use minutes off my prepaid plan? For example, I have my mail checked every hour. Will it use EDGE to check my mail? If it does, is the only way not to use data is to disable checking mail?

Yes, the phone will use EDGE to access your email, and yes it will use minutes off your prepaid plan. Hit the Mail button accidentally when on EDGE and was charged about $6.00 for downloading ~20 emails . This is on a GoPhone plan. All you need to do though is disable EDGE, just use BossPrefs (assuming this since you're in the Hacks forum).
