Hi, I have a Mac Mini. I currently use a 32 inch HP monitor. I am getting back into coding and I would like to upgrade to a 43 inch TV. Does anyone have experience with this. Especially interested in Sony - 43 Class BRAVIA 3 LED 4K UHD TV. Does anyone have specific experience with this model?

I don’t use it for working but the mini on my OLED TV looks glorious, the interface is great and I increased a bit the contrast. I’m not on liquid glass, though.

Those are some pretty big pixels unless you plan to sit 6 feet away. Hope you have a deep desk.

I have also considered doing something like this. Don't know anything about this particular TV, but (based on a quick search) it has a dot pitch somewhere around 80 to 90 pixels per inch (Sony doesn't have a spec on their site). Those pixels would certainly be on the large size, but not too crazy.

I'm using a BenQ 32" QHD screen at its native resolution on my 2018 Mini and have been very happy with it. IIRC, it has a pixel density of about 94 PPI. I don't think I'd want to go any lower than that personally, I always really liked my old Apple 23" Cinema Display and it had a dot pitch of 100 ppi, so I would want to stay in that range.

Now, I'm talking about using the native resolution - which I need for the Windows GIS app I heavily use in a VM. If you use something like the "looks like 1080p" setting then, yeah, that would be really big text.

A 43” 4k TV is about 110 pixels per inch, effectively 4-21.5” 1080p screens.

I have a cheap 43” LG TV in my bar room. At about 5 feet away, it makes for a nice looks like 1920x1080 display. Unfortunately my eyes don’t adjust fast enough to different screen distances to effectively use it as a secondary screen with either my MBP or mini and a screen on the bar.

Personally, sitting close enough to use the screen at 4k resolution results in too much head movement for my taste. I’ve settled on a 32” screen @ native 4k at about 24”-27” being my sweet spot.

I used this setup before. Works perfectly fine - same as 43inch 4k monitor I have now. There is difference in picture tone which one needs to tweak on the TV. It is lot more difficult to match expected colors and tones on TV than on monitors. It can be done, though, since the hardware is basically the same. But by default the TV just looks different than what you may expect.
