Using a VPN in China with mywi?

I have a JB iPhone 3GS which is factory unlocked by ATT. I am going to China in a couple months and want to be sure that I can access home fully as usual. And of course preferably, I want to be able to use MyWi to share that VPN connection with other devices. I have never used a VPN before so I am researching providers. I have no problem spending money for a good one. Is there anything I need to think about to make sure this works smoothly? I'm hoping there's just some number I type into the iPhone network settings, and then my MyWi works just like it always does in the civilized world. Is that what will happen? Any tips?
