I was wandering why can't I use the remote and the mic of the Apple Earphones when I plug them in my MBP, why it works only on iOS devices?

How old is your MacBook Pro/what model is it? The remote and mic capability isn't supported on some older models that were released prior to when Apple implemented the remote and mic into their earphones.

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. They definitely should work.

My thought exactly. All Macs since the late 2008 unibody update have supported it. When I connect my iPhone 4 headset to the headphone jack on my MacBook I can play, pause, adjust volume, and use the mic. I don't get that functionality using the microphone jack, although as I recall it your model has only one jack for both anyway.

I had the same problem, in addition, sometimes sound just wouldn't work until I went to sleep and back. Since getting my SSD and reinstalling, the problems went away.
