Hi

Can i plug my ACD 24" on a PC using DVI port with an adapter?

does this adapter exist?

thx

From what I remember, there is an adaptor to go from a PC's DVI port to the mini display port for use with an ACD... but it's over $100.

If you don't already have the display - there are plenty of other equivalent or better options for the money.

Are there any PC graphics cards that have Mini displayport?

Yeah, there are couple ATI 5970 with MDP. Quite many have normal DisplayPort which is actually the same, just like Mini-DVI is just smaller version of DVI. You just need a Mini DisplayPort to Display port adapter which is like 5$

actually, i have the display

i'm moving to Canada and the screen is too big to fit in the cabine luggage

i'm trying to sell it but if i fail to sell it on time, i would try to have it connected to the pc at home...

changing the video card on the pc with a mini display port would be more expensive than paying the oversize luggage for my ACD 24

ok let's say i get a video card with displayport

then the cable you just showed me cannot fit

because the big side goes to the pc but the small side cannot go anywhere

because the ACD 24" is not like the imac 27"

it doesn't have any input video port

it's a built in cable with a mini displayport at the end

not so sure that a repeater would work

it's a male-male repeater

a male-femelle adapter would be necessary

this means that my only solution is to succeed in selling the screen before i leave

Yeah but if you get the cable I earlier showed, DisplayPort male to MDP male -> Female to female MDP -> Apple cable

It SHOULD work but you're better off selling it and getting a new one

my fear with ebay is that it would sell at half the price

while the screen is only 1.5 month old :(

what about adjusting the brightness of the cinema display?

cuz this LED display isn't like the old ACDs where brightness can be adjusted at the side of the display.

this has nothing to do with my problem

you should create your own thread or use the search function

how is it not your problem?

You think everything is going to be alright once the ACD is connected to the PC? Don't you want to know how to adjust the brightness of this thing when you finally hook it up onto the PC?

I think an easy solution is to buy an ATI eyefinity edition card, like the 5870 or the 5770 version when they're available. Or, you can buy a card with a display-port and some adapters as others have said.

5770 Eyefinity Edition (A good balance for gaming performance and price IMO)

5870 Eyefinity Edition (I think this is excessive)

According to this discussion, the brightness can be controlled by installing some boot-camp drivers. After that, it's a bit fussy, but it's possible.

Just built an Intel 980x system with HD 5970 graphics card

I can safely say that the LED cinema display works right off the bat at max brightness. Yipee!!
