Using an external mic

hey!!

I'm having some issues running an external mic through my mac, on windows settings. The mic I am using is a plantronics, I'm not quite sure of the model. It has an audio in and an audio out connector. I have tried connecting to the audio in and switching the mic settings from internal to input, with no luck..

I guess my real question is: Is there anyway I can go about getting my mic to work with out having to buy an imic (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/)

I seem to be having a similar problem getting my headset mic (or the built-in one for that matter) to work with my new i7 imac despite all other audio functions working fine.
