Hi,

A friend sent me the following e-mail. A friend of his is selling the following:

20 Inch White iMac with 2Ghz dual Processor and 2Gb ram, very good condition, with Adobe CS5 creative suite installed and Final Cut Pro. A bargain at 350 *units* or nearest price! These sell for 450 *units* or more on ebay. Must sell! Be quick! Cash sale only!
Please message me for more details. Thanks you!

*units* are $, €, or pounds, depending on your country

As you can see, the guy who is selling it, has Final Cut Pro in it. So I imagine, the computer is good enough to handle the download of video from a dSLR and the transcoding of it.

If it is possible, (I don't have all the specs for it now), I would add at least two more GB of RAM. Hopefully it is not that expensive the extra RAM.

What do you think. Is it like a good buy. What would you watch out for ??

If I also happen to buy a new laptop in the future, I could use the screen of the iMac. Couldn't I??

Other uses for this iMac would be photoshop with pics.

Thank you, kind regards,

igmolinav.

Hi Spinnerlys,

Thank you for your answers and advice : ) !!!
I hope I get a few more specs from this guy
soon : ) !!!

Kind regards,

Hi,

I received the following e-mail concerning the specs. :

Heres more info:

According to this website
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423?viewlocale=en_US

it is possible to have 2 x 2Gb DDR2 ram in it to make up 4Gb ram

That would make it a faster machine *if* you were doing video - or creating very large Photoshop files. Otherwise its very good as it is, no need to add ram. A perfect all round computer.

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo

Mac OSX: Snow Leopard 10.6 Installed

Memory: 2GB

250 GB Hard Drive

Disc Burner: Slot-loading 8x SuperDrive (2.4x Dual Layer burn)

Graphics: ATI Radeon X1600 (128MB GDDR3)

Wireless: Built-in 54 Mbps AirPort Extreme (802.11g)

Video camera: Built-In iSight

Perhaps he is confusing computers.

Kind regards,

igmolinav.

Looks like a scam to me... But what do I know. All I can say, is that I have a little bit better spec 2.16 hz 24" white imac- 24", 256 nvidia, 4 Gb ram 2TB hard drive. It is great computer, runs final cut express just fine, but forget about playing something like raw panasonic HDC-HS700K mts and m2t files. It just simply fails to run them. I am not sure about editing part... By the way- I tried to play the same clips on new apple products 20" imac is OK, but 13" macbook pro unfortunately has problems with playback.

its good enough to run FCP .
i'm assuming you are buying this because of the software installed?
Then what to watch is make sure the softwares are legit, not pirated.

when i say is good enough to run FCP, is you need to know what you are doing, eg the right format to edit. And FCP will run just fine.

I agree with poster above, watch out for scam. He shouldn't have any problem selling it, if the softwares are legit. So that's what to watch for. If you can inspect the machine yourself that would be great :) And if he is genuine he wouldn't mind.

I advertised selling a powermac in a free classified, with $100 lower of what was listed in ebay and its sold and picked up within a day!

Hi,

Thank you again for your help : ) !!!

Very kind regards,

igmolinav.
