Hey, if anyone has tried to use Blender with a white macbook and Leopard, they probably found that it crashes with spectacular results, sometimes even locking up the entire OS (details). If you have been following it there has been a lot of contention as to whose problem it is, Apple or Blender, so nothing has been done.

I assume that the problems are a difference in how the graphics memory is allocated between Leopard and Windows and previous versions of OSX have not been so vram hungry.

Anyway, of all the reported solutions I've tried, I decided to solve it myself and found that blender works well running in xp under vmware. I have not had it crash and it seems to handle models in excess of 1m polys fine (2.1Ghz 2GB DDR2).

It's a bit of a hack solution, and there's the occasional bit of lag because it's running in a virtual machine, but at least I don't have to put my windows box back together.
