Hello,

Running High Sierra.

I have Windows 10 installed, and access it using Bootcamp.
Works just fine.

But, it is a true pain getting to it with the shutdown requirement, and then getting
back to the OS with waiting for all the icons to stop bouncing, etc., etc.
Lots of steps and time.

Sure takes the fun out of using.

Was wondering if anyone has found any trick or technique to do either the to or back switchings
faster ? Would be great to cut down on the time and inconvenience of the switching.

Thanks,
Bob

You need to have both on a SSD and then switching will be mostly painless (and it will eliminate the icons bouncing). Rebooting from the Mac side and getting to the Windows login should be achievable in under 30 seconds with a SSD.

You could try defragmenting, but any improvement will be minor.

You could try something like Parallels or VirtualBox, where you basically run Windows as a app. The downside is your Mac has to be powerful enough to essentially run two computers at once and certain Windows apps will not run well or at all in this configuration.

A classic hard drive has had relatively minor speed improvements over the years, and most of the advertised speed comes from large, continuous access. Booting your computer uses many small files scattered around. Imagine a classic record player trying to locate specific sections on the record, a hard drive is about the same (if you ignore the details).

Hi,

Thanks,

If the SSD's come down a bit more in price, will certainly consider.

Regards,
Bob
