Using Calibre with iPad and Kindle?

I've been using Calibre to convert old ebooks for my iPad for some time and it works great. For Fathers Day my daughter bought me a Kindle so I converted some books to Mobi and put them on the Kindle. But now Calibre won't detect my iPad or iPod, which is really inconvenient. I've tried deleting Calibre and reinstalling as well as restarting the initial setup, no effect. Any ideas out there?

Running "welcome wizard" from preferences gives you the choice for selecting device ....... but you said you ran initial setup (welcome wizard)

Yup. Both connect to iTunes but neither will open the send-to-device object in Calibre.
