Using disk utility to restore to USB drive

Hello.

I am trying to clone my internal APFS formatted drive to an external AFPS formatted drive.

In disk utility I select the external drive and click restore. I get a window that invites me to select a source to restore from but there are no drives populated in that list.

How do I select my internal drive to clone from?

That's strange. Can you try starting up in Internet Recovery and try it again?
