I'm already on AT&T and using a Blackberry without a data plan since I use it mostly for the PDA type functionality. I was going to get an iPod Touch but then came across the fact that I can pay the early termination fee (ETF) and not have to worry about having a montly data plan. I don't really care to be able to use 3G access anywhere because I sit in a building all day with WiFi and have WiFi at home as well and don't really travel much.
Is there anything bad that could come up with getting the iPhone, then paying the ETF and then removing my data plan and having all data blocked to the phone except text messages? I was going to sell my BB to cover the cost of the ETF and still come out ahead.
Also, would it be possible to get the phone at the store and then pay the ETF right there and have everything done right there? That would save me the hassle of paying any data plan for a month or so and having to call in later to get the work done.
