I plan on buying a 32" monitor to connect to my mid-2013 MBA.

I have a mini-DP to DP cable. This can support up to 2560 x 1600 correct?

My question is can I purchase a 4k monitor and lower the native resolution to support the MBA?

I am looking at the LG 32UD59 (on sale for less than $400) which is native 3840 x 2160

Or the HP Pavilion 32Q (on sale for less than $300) which is native 2560x1440.

Would it be smarter to get the LG to future proof? I want to eventually upgrade the MBA within the next 1-2 years.
