Using External Speakers for iPhone Calls

It would be great to have my iPhone 4 docked on my desk and when I take phone calls via speaker phone I could hear the caller through my stereo speakers. Does anyone know if speaker phone calls can be heard through external speakers with the iPhone 4 dock connected via the audio out cable to a powered amplifier? Thanks.

I used to do this in my car using an auxiliary headphone cable on my Alpine. The callers on the other end complained of a loud echo. You may have better luck.
