Using External with Iphone 6?

After having to drop my unlimited data I have felt the need to continue to use music on my computer rather than streaming. I have about 1tb of music and it's growing constantly so I was wondering if anyone has tried using a low powered external hard drive and connecting it to your iphone like many android phones can do?
