Using 'Files' with apps like Mellel

I'm not sure how to create a better workflow.
I use Mellel on my desktop, create a document, save it to iCloud.

I open my iPad hoping to work on that Mellel document but Files doesn't allow me any sorting my date or filename.
I have to do a search for my document.

Is there something I've overlooked in iOS Files?

I have only an iPhone to check; I'm not sure if it's different than the iPad.

When I'm working in the Files app, or navigating through files from another application (I only tried Numbers), I see a small circle with three horizontally arranged dots in the upper right of my screen. Clicking on that circle shows me sort options: Name, Date, Size, Kind, and Tags. Each of those options can be set to ascending or descending sort order.
