I've seen a little about this, but nothing that seemed definitive. So here goes.
I want to give my first gen iPhone to my mother, who uses Consumer Cellular (they just resell AT&T minutes, so she's already on the AT&T network). She has a RAZR, and she'd like to use my old iPhone for it's PDA capabilities and Internet only when she has access to WiFi. Consumer Cellular doesn't sell any data plans and at this point she doesn't want to pay $75/mo anyway.
Can I just drop the RAZR SIM into the iPhone and it'll work? Or will it bark about not having an iPhone-specific feature enabled? If it does work right out of the gate, will it continue to work if the OS is updated and the phone needs to reactivate?
I can unlock the phone if necessary, but I'd have to do it for her every time a new version of the OS came out, so I'd like to avoid that.
