Using Gift Card at Store w/ No Physical Card?

Thread title, I bought a Apple Store GC from the forums and was curious on whether or not I could use it in store without the actual card in hand (I just have the pin). Does anybody know if this would work or would they demand the actual card to be present.

I'm not sure if they would allow that. However, depending on what you are buying you could order online for in store pick up and use the card that way.
