Using Handbrake to put DVDs on iPhone

I used MakeMKV to break the copy protection, and now I'm using Handbrake to convert my file for playing on an iPhone an iPad and possibly an AppleTV. Under Picture Settings in Handbrake it shows my source is 720x480 though it keeps trying to output the file at 708x480 and when I uncheck the Keep aspect ratio box and try to type in 720x480 it will not save it. Why is it not simply keeping the source settings for the output settings? How do I preserve/change it back to the original source settings? Is there a reason why I want it to be 708x480 instead of 720x480?
