Using iBooks on iPhone/iPad - doesn't pick up where i left off

Title says it all - my iphone seems to have no idea where i left off on my iPad, and vice versa. Bookmarks also do not automatically sync as i've heard they should. Suggestions? Am i missing a feature/preference that needs to be turned on?

Edit: never mind! I had Sync Bookmarks turned on on my iPhone but not my iPad.
