using icloud, how do you sync music localy @ PC?

I just tried this, converted to icloud, restored to my new phone, worked great. Now I go to sync up my music and it wipes my phone ... is there a proper way of doing this that I may have missed? In itunes sync to icloud was checked.

Just go to your iTunes and make sure you check the box to not sync when connected. Once your connected go to music and just click sync music. It will just upload all your music and not effect anything else. I just completed this process

so manually manage music and videos?

otherwise I have sync with this iphone over wifi and sync only checked songs and videos, for some reason even that wiped my phone.

I wonder if it was because I had itunes match enabled?

Do you mean itunes wifi sync? because thats not icloud. Or are you trying to so itunes home sharing?

it's okay, I am just going to use itunes match, I might as well, I am paying for it afterall, hah.
