So I've set up my iMessage on my mac using the text forwarding from the iphone. I can text people from my iphone, on my mac. But what I can't do is... on my mac, open a new text message and type in a contact's name from my iphone. THeir name does not pop up. I switched over from android where I had all my contacts in google.

When I go into Mac > Preferences> APPLE ID> iCloud and uncheck contacts... then all the names don't show up on the imessages on Mac. It's just poepe's phone #'s. ....

What settings do I have to do on the mac or iphone to do this...?

Assuming you are signed into iCloud on the Mac, and have 'Contacts' turned on under System Preferences>Apple ID, it should work.

Check to see if the contacts are syned. In my case, I sync my contacts to Google and not Apple. Whatever you use, make sure it's synced.

This an older article but it still works. Once your Google contacts account is registered in your Mac contacts app and iCloud is chosen as above, they will sync.

Follow the directions in this article:

Thanks. I've added GOOGLE under contacts and synced the "contacts". Question.... in Contacts, under iCloud - do I still have the "contacts" checked here too? or no? I only want my google contacts synced....

Yeah, you should also have "contacts" checked off there. Note that it will sync all your contacts. You can always name your contacts folders to tell them apart. For example: One folder - "Business Contacts" another - "Google Contacts", and so on.

I have three separate contacts folders and can sync all of them or just one at a time.
