under this new Universal Control, can I use an iPad (appropriate model) as a screen (including touch functions) for my soon to arrive mac mini M1?

Thanks. From the very little I have read I thought it was any iPad, not just the pro and no special dongle needed. I'll research a bit more.

Ask @Alexis Noel as he’s had this setup for about 2yrs now featured on the Mac setup thread.

Ok, been checking this out a bit more, and while I can now safely think the iPad can act as a monitor, I really cannot find anything definitive on the iPad touch screen functions, and if they would work for apps on the mac mini...seems all the stuff I have read still requires you to use a mouse and keyboard.

Can anyone shed light on this please?

Sidecar offers some touch functionality.

biggest negative to me is that it doesn’t work in portrait mode.

Duet Display also offers some touch functionality.

Luna does as well, and also offers a headless option.

OK, some info from Luna:

Thank you for your interest in Luna Display! Luna supports basic input via the touch screen of the iPad. You can double tap to double click and to single tap for a single click. Two-finger pinch zooming and two-finger panning gestures are also supported with Luna. Touch panning can be used for scrolling.

Luna does not have support for using the native iPad on-screen keyboard, unfortunately. Luna can be used with an iPad-compatible Bluetooth/hardware keyboard or a keyboard connected to the Mac.

Another thing to note, Luna Display isn't compatible with the 4th generation iPad. Luna requires at least an iPad Mini 2 (2013+), iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation (2017+), or iPad Air (2013+) running iOS 12.1 or later.

So I just purchased the Luna Display - should be here early next week. I saw one video where the guy took his iPad outside while the Mac mini was inside and it works... I am wanting to do this upstairs - so not as far of a connection. we also have really good router....
