I posted this in another forum, but received no replies - maybe it was the wrong forum. We are doing some field research which requires us to photograph a specific area on multiple test samples. The area we need to capture is about 1 m by 1 m in size. We need to know: 1) the actual area captured in the photograph; 2) the distance between the area captured and the device/user.

I am assuming that with the LIDAR on the new iPad Pros and the new iPhone 12 Pro, the new iOS devices can measure the two above parameters quickly and easily. Are there apps that provide these values? I saw one or two apps that provide the area, but nothing specific about distance. We do not have a LIDAR equipped iOS device to test our assumptions out, and I'd like to confirm the iOS LIDAR can do these before buying.

Does the additional camera capabilities (wide angle, zoom) on the iPhone 12 Pro enhance the LIDAR capabilities compared to the iPad Pros?

What would be a nice bonus is if the distance to subject information can be displayed in real time so that the user knows he or she is standing at the same consistent distance from the subject area while trying to capture the image.

Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.
