using itunes library and apple music library with two macs

hello.

so i got my itunes music library on an external drive.

i got two macs, one is newer and the older one does not support catalina. i believe this is where apple stopped using itunes.

so is there a way to use the external drive (with music) on both macs? (ideally keeping play count and other changes upto date).
