So, I was hoping that I'd be able to use Lion's whole disk encryption with Lion's software-based RAID, but sadly you can't bundle these together.

That is, if you format disks as encrypted then you cannot make a RAID array out of them, and if you create a RAID array you cannot make it encrypted.

Does anyone have any experience with lower-end HW-based RAID, specifically RAID 0 and Lion encryption?

Ideally, I'd have an external enclosure which would handle the RAID duties in hardware, and I would then use Lion's whole-disk encryption on that. I do see plenty of ads for RAID enclosures but I'm not sure if it's going to be compatible or not.

TIA!
