Hi,

Thanks for having me on the forum!!

I have recently bought two retina MBP 13" (late 2012's) with the SSDs removed (for sec. reasons).

I am now trying to replace the missing SSDs with original MBP parts but have found it hard to find original SSDs for the 13" MBP. What I have found are plenty of 15" ret. SSDs for sale - which would suit me.

My question is, despite the fact that they are installed differently are the SSDs cross compatible, regardless as to whether it fits in a caddy or attaches directly to the LB?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as I can't seem to find consistent answers!

Thanks again in advance.

Will

Update: I have this which claims that the SSDs are compatible with sister/brother models can anyone else confirm please?

Yes the SSDs used in both the 15 and 13 retina MBPs are the same and cross compatible. There are also SSDs available from Other World Computing that will also work.

Hi, OEM SSD's from the 13 and 15 inch rMBP (both 2012 and 2013 editions) are cross compatible among them, you can get from 128 to 768 GB capacities. Samsung SSD's are supposed to be superior to the Sandisk, so suggest you look for one from Samsung. I think you may buy a 512gb Samsung SSD through Ebay from reputable sellers for as low as $450 and the 768gb size for around $700 USD.
