Using mbp with external monitors

Have never done this before but I'm planning of running dual 5k monitors and the laptop in clamshell mode. Anyone who has done this before can you chime in ?? How does the laptop run? Any lag? does the laptop get really hot ?? Is there a performance hit ? I have a maxed 15" tbmbp
