I am going to link my old iMac to my brand new iMac (which has an sad and hard drive).

If I tell migration assistant to transfer all my pictures and videos to the new iMac, will it place it on the hard drive, or the ssd???

I would think it would put the application files and system library files on the SSD and the documents, movies, music, user library files on the HDD, but having not tried this before, I can't be certain. Migration Assistant has needed some attention from apple for a while now.

Just my guess. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I am now curious about this too.

Default will almost certainly be the HDD, I don't think that's changed, but with ML and the SSD now mainstream things may alter...It makes more sense to put your files on the faster SSD if you can.
