Thankyou so much for the help
I was reading some of the reviews and one person said this

"I can not get this thing to output to my Samsung LN-4042H 40 inch LCD. The old miniDVI to VGA worked no problem with my old MacBook. I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me."

My mac is a older one, should i be looking for a mini dvi enstead? would that possibly be cheaper?
Thanks again for all your help

- That guy has a problem with his setup, I'd say. I own the mDP-VGA adapter myself and have not had a single issue with it in more than four years of ownership.
If you prefer, many third parties sell the same adapter as well. Make a short Google or Amazon search.

- Nope, most definitely not. The 2011 models use Mini DisplayPort, not Mini DVI (if you look in my sig, you'll see I have the same vintage).
The last non-mDP MacBook Pro was all the way back in Late 2008 before the Aluminium unibody.
