I may be going on a plane this summer. I have a few questions about it.

1 ) *If I own a mifi (portable wifi), will it work on the plane?

2 ) Do I have to stay in airplane mode for the whole trip on the plane?

3 ) Do planes have internet service (such as Edge, 3G or wifi)?

I hope I don't sound stupid asking these questions. :D I'm usually not this clueless with mac products (Please don't blame me, I'm only twelve...). Help is appreciated.

*I don't own a mifi (I only own wifi at my house), and I don't even know if they sell it for ATT... If you know anything about that, tell me.

Some virgin planes now have wifi on them but other than them you must keep your phone off or on airplane mode for the whole flight.

1. No, it won't work as you won't get reception.
2. Yes, with a few exceptions.
3. Some airlines have in-flight wifi or cell phone reception (not for data though), which can be priced from somewhat reasonable (Virgin) to rather absurd (RyanAir). Basically, it depends on your airline, so as said, give them a call.

1. nope there are no cell towers in the sky
2. yes keep it in airplane mode it will conserve the battery
3. unless they advertise that they have wi-fi, almost all airplanes do not have an internet connection

4.Dude you need to chill out. You don't need to be connected to the internet 24/7. You are 12 its not like you need it for anything important. Bring a book to read, take a nap, etc

Your phone should remain on Airplane mode for the entire flight.
Strictly, it should be completely OFF for takeoff and landing, but 1) nobody will know and 2) Airplane mode suffices.

Actually, if you're flying over populated land, your phone may well be in range of many cell sites.
The problem is it can see too many at once, and you're passing through them too quickly to get a connection.

And even if you could get a connection depending on where you're flying over you could end up with massive roaming bills.
