iPod Using my ipod as a hard drive

I want to put all my files from my mac onto my pc, however I do not have an external hard drive or anything else with similar space to put them onto.
Is there a way that I can just put the files onto my ipod, attach it to my pc and get the files off, or will this not work because the ipod is formatted to my mac?
If so, is it possible to format the ipod so its not formatted to anything at all, if you get me, so it is literally used just as a hard drive.

Not sure about removing the original OS in the iPod, but maybe google that and something might pop up.
