iPod Using Nano for File Storage?

I haven't seen anything about using the Nano for file storage. Does anyone know if (a) this is possible and (b) how it works?

Is it like the shuffle where you have to set some of the memory aside for regular data storage or is it like the full-sized iPod where you can just use it like a standrard portable hard drive? I assume due to the flash it works like the shuffle. Can anyone confirm?
