I bought a used OWC ThunderBay 6 a while back and haven't gotten around to setting it up. I wanted it for speed for work, but it's not that fast, so now it's going to be for storage. I see it comes with SoftRAID, I looked into it, I don't want to use it, seems like an extra level of complication. What I'd like to do is use it as a JBOD and use Disk Utility to turn 2 of the drives I have into a RAID 1 for redundancy. Should that work or would I need to use SoftRAID for some reason to do the RAID 1? Any issues with it being just a multi disk enclosure?

I've looked at some other posts and it seems like that should be fine, but figured I'd ask as I might be missing something. Thanks in advance.
