I have switched from iPhoto to Photos on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite. I have all photos on an external drive now, imported into the Photos library from the iPhoto library. However, no new photos are showing up in that directory (on the external) when I attach it and load Photos.

I have found all my newly taken photos (from my iPhone 6 and iPad Air) on my MacBook HD, in the Photos Library directory. But I don't want it on my HD, I want it to automatically add to the external drive's library, which is what Photos now uses.

I have clicked the Photo Stream option under System Preferences, iCloud (which was not checked before) but I still don't see my latest photos in Photos (meaning, added to the library on the external drive).

I have not set up the iCloud Photo Library yet because of problems I have been reading about it.

How can I set things to add my Photo Stream items to my external drive when I attach it to my laptop?

Thanks.
