Just purchased an iPhone 12 Mini and since the box did not include a power adapter or lightning cable.

Would it be fine if I use the power adapter and lightning cable that came with my other iPhone?
My other iPhone that I was using before was the iPhone XS.
Would there be any issues?

I am using the exact same one as from the attached image.

Yes, you will be fine using the adapter and cable from your XS. Charging will be a little less than you could get with a new adapter but thats OK.

That adapter will work just fine.

You sure you didn’t get the usb c lightning cable in the box? All iPhones have the charging cable included in the box

If you do end up buying a adapter in the
future I’d go with the apple 20W fast charger.

You can continue to use your existing charger or get a new USB-C charger to use with the included new cable.

Yes, box included the cable for USB-C charging.

But 20w for fast charging? That is good, but also tends to shed life on battery health? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

If so, then I would prefer the slower charging instead and putting less stress on the battery health.

In that case, then what wattage do you all recommend?

No issues here, 12 pro max using apple 30W adapter is still on 100% battery health, previous phone xs max used for 2 years also charging with 30W adapter was at 95% battery health when I got rid of it.

5W adapter is painfully slow at charging.

If you’re concerned about battery health, the 12W apple adapter is a good middle ground, it charges pretty quickly as well.

Should I go for the 20w or with 30w? And what about the phone getting overheated? Is there a need to worry with higher wattage levels?

Thanks!

Ok, good to know.

Then should I go for the 20w as advised above?

Thanks!
Fast charging can lead to extra heat which is not good for the battery. My wife still uses the 5W charger that came with her previous iPhone or a 10W charger that came with a iPad we have.

Then I’ll stick with the charging adapter that came with the XS for now.

But in the future in regards to using USB-C, what wattage should be safe enough in terms of less heat during charging and for conserving battery health?

If you’re worried about heat, which you shouldn’t be, go with the 12W apple adapter, keep in mind it’s usb A not C.

Couldn’t agree more. You won’t regret getting that $19 Apple 20W brick 👍 It does charge *that much* faster. Heat is not an issue especially when it comes to Apple’s official 20W charger. Sure, the phone will become a little bit warmer, but it never becomes hot 🥵

This is the very reason why Apple removed the charger from the box....to use the old one.

YMMV but through the years I've both exclusively fast charged and or wireless charged my iPhones with out any ill effect on the batteries.

I will note that I tend to only keep my phone for max of 2 years, but have noted on the past few phones that my battery health is in the low 90's+ after those two years. Not too bad.

Just to confirm. If I use the charging adapter that came with the iPhone XS will not cause any damage if used on the iPhone 12 Mini?

Just a yes or no response is all I need.

Thank you.

Yes. See posts 2,3,4, amongst others.

No.

I use a multitude of chargers for my 12 Pro. Ranging from the 5w charger that used to come with iPhones to an 18w iPad USB-C charger. Plus third party chargers of various sizes.
