I've tried everywhere for some sort of guide on this, but I have a ton of home DVDs (converted from old VHS and film) that I'd like to re-do using iMovie and iDVD. Could anyone offer any tips and/or advice?

look for MPEG2, DVDxDV, streamclip in various threads here.

Essentially you need to convert back to DV or another format that iLife will work with.

On first thought, I'm pretty sure you can just use HandBrake to rip the video and convert it to MPEG-4 / H.264, both of which iMovie will take.

There could be a better solution, but I think that will work just fine.
