Well I was wondering when I hook up my PS3 controller to my MBP, if all 4 lights should rapidly blink? All 4 lights blink faster then when it's charging.

Also is there a way to change the name of the controller? I have 2 controllers that I want to name separately so I can distinguish between the two.

Your post piqued my curiosity, so I had to figure this out tonight. This is what I discovered.:

Slow Flash - once per second = Controller is OFF and charging.

Fast Flash = Controller is ON and connected to the Mac via Bluetooth.

You can't initiate a Bluetooth connection by pressing the PS button if the controller is physically cabled to the Mac, but if the controller is already on (i.e. Bluetooth is active) the Fast Flashing will continue after plugging the controller into the Mac.

When paired with a Mac my controller refuses to turn itself off and will Fast Flash until the battery is dead. To manually turn a PS3 controller off, press and hold the PS button for 10-15 seconds until the lights stop flashing.

But, I noticed one odd thing. There are times when I turn the controller on after it was charging and I get no lights at all. I know that the controller is on because it works with my games and shows up as Connected in the System Preferences - Bluetooth panel; but you wouldn't know it from looking at the controller itself.

Also is there a way to change the name of the controller? I have 2 controllers that I want to name separately so I can distinguish between the two.

The Update Device Name option in the System Preferences - Bluetooth panel doesn't seem to work with either of my PS3 controllers, so the only way that I can see to differentiate the controllers is by using their unique Bluetooth addresses. (Time to get out the label maker!)

BTW - What games do you play that have gamepad support for two controllers?

Thanks for the help. Just wondered why all 4 lights flash and not one? Didn't know if that was normal or not but it still works otherwise. The 4 blinking lights seems to be quite annoying sometimes. Just kinda hoped that 1 light would be solidly lit.

Playing some old-school PSX games, especially Diablo via PCSX :D
