Using redsn0w, receiving several jailbreak errors for iphone 4

I finally restored my phone to stock firmware after going through all of this, and after following directions provided in that thread, I'm still not able to rejailbreak. I've downloaded the ipsw for a GSM iPhone 4 on 5.0.1, selected it in redsn0w version 0.9.10b5c, put my phone into DFU mode (as noted by the Recovery message in iTunes), and redsn0w gives me one of the following errors each time:

-USB communication problem
-No identifying data fetched
-Unexpected error
-Exploit failed

What am I doing wrong?

in the redsn0w extra's tab go to select IPSW, manual select your stock 5.01 IPSW you downloaded and than try jailbreak again

Why do you have iTunes running while jailbreaking?

I do not at the moment, but used it to make sure my phone was properly put into dfu mode, then quit iTunes.

Just now I got a no identifying data fetched error, despite selecting the ipsw from Extras.
