Using Rember (first time user)

I recently downloaded Rember after getting some memory upgrades for my computers but wasnt sure if just the GUI application was testing it properly and found someone suggested booting into Sigle user mode:

1) install Rember

2) Boot into single-user mode:

hold command-S on boot, then:

/sbin/fsck -fy

/sbin/mount -uw /

3) Once you have the hard drive mounted, run the memtest executable buried in Rember. If you installed Rember to /Applcation/Utilities the path would be:

/Applications/Utilities/Rember.app/Contents/Resources/memtest

does either way make a difference at all? even if the memory is being used by the OS while running the GUI?
