I am still debating between an iMac and MBP. I will have occasional portability needs but unless I sell it, I currently have a Dell laptop for travel. I am replacing my old Dell desktop with either the iMac or MBP.

It has been suggested I go entirely with Mac, sell the Dell laptop, and then use a remote monitor and keyboard both of which I prefer - I like the desk top. When I need portability I would take the MBP. It so happens I have a slightly used 22" Apple monitor so would not be spending extra $$ for that.

How would this work? Does the laptop have to be open all the way - I presume it has to be turned on and sit beside the monitor? When I sit down to work, would everything happen as it does now with my desk top, using the large screen and the MBP sitting in the background? Just looking for ideas on this arrangement and anything I might be overlooking. Thanks
