Using San Francisco fonts as custom fonts with proper kerning

When the SF fonts are used as custom fonts in third party applications they appear way too spaced out. From what I can understand they're custom-spaced by the system when used as a system font.

Is there any way to tell the fonts how to behave (perhaps hand-modifying the kerning of specific font sizes) in non-system font context?

Edit: Seems like SF Display has the "correct" kerning, at least at size 12.
