Using SDHC cards to backup my Mac?

I'm going to take my Macbook Pro on a trip with me, and I am having some hard drive problems. I want to take lots of photos and videos, and I'm thinking of using a couple SDHC cards to backup the photos and videos that I transfer to my Mac. I've never used cards for this purpose, so I'm just looking to see what others think of this idea?

No reason at all that won't work. A lot of users do the same thing.
